What to know before moving a tree
Smaller trees move better
Younger, smaller trees handle a move a lot better than big established ones. The bigger the tree, the more roots it loses when it's dug up. If a tree is too big to move safely, we'll tell you.
Timing matters
The best time to transplant is when the tree is dormant, in early spring before the leaves come out or in the fall after they drop. The tree has a much easier time settling in.
Aftercare
A transplanted tree needs steady watering for the first season while the roots get established. We'll tell you exactly what to do.
